Job Description

Optimi is currently looking for individuals with excellent communication skills to join the team as online educators. The successful candidates must be team players, deadline driven, and have subject knowledge in any one of the following subjects: English Home Language, English First Additional Language, Afrikaans Huistaal, Afrikaans Eerste Addisionele Taal, Mathematics, Life Orientation, Tourism, Economic and Management Sciences, Business Studies, Engineering Graphics and Design,  Computer Applications Technology, Physical Sciences, Natural Sciences, Geography, Social Sciences, History, Hospitality Studies, or Consumer Studies. The requirements for this role are either a completed or in final year of a level 7 diploma/bachelor’s degree with a professional teaching qualification or a subject-specific qualification aligned with the subject to be taught online. Additional requirements include a SACE registration, two years of relevant experience, experience with online teaching and online education platforms (beneficial), computer literacy, fluency in English and Afrikaans, and a stable internet connection with at least a 20 MB line and power backup for electricity disruptions.

Is this a full-time or part-time position?
This is a full-time position; therefore, you will be earning a salary per month.

Is this a permanent position?
Yes, the Impaq Online School teachers are appointed on a permanent basis.

What about school holidays?
You will still have school holidays as per the Impaq academic calendar. These ‘holiday’ times may be utilised or partially utilised for mandatory training sessions. Should training be scheduled, it will be communicated well in advance.

How long is a school day?
Depending on the grades being taught, a school day will be from 07:30 until around 14:30. Teachers should, however, be available until 16:00 for meetings, training, or extra, intervention or catch-up classes.

How many periods a week will I be actively teaching?
Depending on the grade and subject being taught, you will be teaching around 33 periods a week.
